Order of Acting Rear Admiral Lee, U. S. Navy, relative to protection against torpedo attack.
FLAGSHIP MINNESOTA,
Off Newport News, Va., February 29, 1864.
SIR: I send the Stepping Stones to you. Dispose of her every night so that she will be best able to certainly run down any suspicious craft which may approach the Roanoke at night, more especially such a one as the low, cigar-shaped steamer, called “David,” which recently blew up the Housatonic off Charleston.
Respectfully, yours,
S. P. LEE,
Actg. Rear-Admiral, Comdg. North Atlantic Blockading Squadron.
Captain GUERT GANSEVOORT.
Zouave and Mount Washington, respectively, detailed for similar service with the Atlanta and Minnesota.
