e-Journal: Skedaddle

The e-Journal, Skedaddle, is intended to be a document that can be printed out for use in various settings such as schools, genealogical or historical societies, or libraries. The journal is published ad-free on a periodic basis.

Please feel free to print copies of e-journal issues out for reading and sharing.

Publication of future issues of Skedaddle is currently on hold until a future day, which has not yet been determined.

As well, the Skedaddle mailing list has been stopped. Whether or not it will be restarted on resumption of publication will be determined at that time.

All previously published issues remain available:

The first volume of publication, published in 2004, has 4 issues and contained a variety of civil war related articles and other material.
The second volume shifted to news articles originally published prior to and during the war. Volume 2 covers January through April of 1861 and has 20 issues.
Future volumes will cover the remainder of the civil war.

I am publishing several pieces of civil war related material a day on a blog called Chronicles of the American Civil War . Most of them are news articles or diary/journal entries for "this" day in 1861. I'm also publishing short pieces of other material.

Many, but not all, of the daily pieces from Chronicles of the American Civil War are included will be used in future issues of Skedaddle.

The intent is to explore the conflict from the days leading up to armed conflict and see it unfold through the words that the people of the day were reading and writing.

Skedaddle e-journal is being moved to a new part of the site. This move is intended to facilitate better access and distribution of the material, as well as incorporate indexes of the names of individuals mentioned in each issue. Creation of indexes for previously published issues will be accomplished over a period of time. This part of the web-site will be maintained until that is accomplished.
